Sleepy Eye Medical Center is excited to welcome Todd Consbruck as its new Administrator, following the retirement of Kevin Sellheim. With an extensive background in healthcare administration and a proven history of success, Consbruck brings a wealth of experience to the Critical Access Hospital. His first day at the medical center was January 15.
“The board of directors of the Sleepy Eye Medical Center would like to thank Kevin Sellheim for his many years of dedicated service, and we welcome Todd Consbruck, who brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the administration of rural health care facilities,” said Mark Schwartz, SEMC Hospital Board Chairperson.
Before joining SEMC, Consbruck served as the Interim Administrator for Logan Health in Chester, Montana, a 25-Bed Critical Access Hospital serving rural communities along Montana’s Hi-Line. While there, he helped lead the implementation of a new electronic medical record system, successfully completed three state surveys, and began recruiting additional medical staff members.
Prior to his time in Chester, he simultaneously served as the CEO for two of Avera’s Critical Access Hospitals in Nebraska for 6 years. In this dual role, he led the design and construction of Emergency and Radiology areas, successfully recruited new medical staff members, helped spearhead the development of a podiatry program, and received multiple awards as a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital in the United States.
Consbruck obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education with an Economics Emphasis from the University of Nebraska and holds a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota. Beyond his professional achievements, he is an avid outdoorsman, known for his love of walleye and trout fishing as well as hunting. Consbruck has two teenage daughters, Logan and Cambell.
“SEMC is an independent, Critical Access Hospital with an excellent reputation, medical staff and support staff,” said Consbruck, expressing his enthusiasm about joining SEMC. “The (career) longevity of previous administrators is a testament to the character of this organization. Once I arrived on campus, it was very apparent—everyone is so welcoming and nice.”
“I’m looking forward to enhancing the healthcare we offer to our community. For me, it’s about doing the right thing for our community, which means listening to, responding to, and anticipating the needs of those we serve.”
Consbruck said his primary goal for the first three months is to listen and learn. He looks forward to identifying strategic planning opportunities and collaborating with staff, patients, the hospital board, and community to shape the future of Sleepy Eye Medical Center.
“Ultimately, we aim to enhance, improve and grow our services to better serve Sleepy Eye and our surrounding communities,” said Consbruck.
