Sleepy Eye Medical Center is pleased to welcome a new podiatrist, Dr. Andrew Highum, DPM, this spring. Highum is a graduate of the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, Chicago. He completed his residency at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago.
“I enjoy providing comprehensive foot and ankle care to patients of all age groups, from pediatric to geriatrics,” Highum said. “I enjoy taking the time to truly get to know and connect with my patients and colleagues. Being able to provide quality medical and surgical care to patients you consider ‘extended family members’ truly makes my profession special.”
As a podiatrist, Highum finds fulfillment in addressing issues that significantly impact patients’ daily lives, whether through clinical treatment or surgical interventions. He notes that patients express deep appreciation when they regain the ability to engage in activities without discomfort, fostering lasting and meaningful connections with them over time.
“Diagnosing complex problems of the foot and ankle and being able to develop a treatment plan to correct that problem is one of the enjoyable challenges of being a podiatrist,” Highum said. “Not everything is black and white, which can be a challenge. This also keeps you motivated to keep learning and improving yourself.”
Some areas of professional interest for Highum include ankle surgery, foot operations, sports medicine, and biomechanics.
Dr. Highum will see patients at SEMC the first and third Wednesday of each month. To make an appointment, call 507-794-3691.
