Sleepy Eye Medical Center will host a special event called “Take a Seat at the Table” at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 7 in the Lower Level of SEMC in an effort to further integrate the patient voice and enhance patient care.
According to Sara Schultz, RN, Quality Improvement Coordinator and Patient & Family Engagement Coordinator, SEMC, the focus of this event is to help patients:
- Gain insight and understanding of SEMC’s mission as their local healthcare provider
- Learn how they (patients) can play an active role in enhancing their care and the care of others
- Learn about SEMC’s efforts to engage and incorporate the patient voice—specifically through the Patient and Family Advisory Council
“I am so excited for this event. It’s going to be a great opportunity for attendees to gain insight on why having a strong Patient and Family Advisory Council helps SEMC enhance communication, relationships, and collaboration with our patients and the communities we serve,” said Schultz.
In addition, the event will include a panel discussion featuring patient advisors who currently serve on SEMC’s Patient and Family Advisory Council.
Schultz said the event will close with an open invitation to patients, asking them to consider serving on the Patient and Family Advisory Council going forward.
The Patient and Family Advisory Council meets on a quarterly basis and partners patients and their families with members of the healthcare team to provide insight and feedback about medical services and the overall patient experience.
“We are looking for individuals who are patients and/or caregivers of patients at Sleepy Eye Medical Center. We ask that they share their views and experiences, respect the perspectives of others, identify patient/family needs and concerns, explore areas of growth and enhancement, and, most importantly, act as advocates to integrate patient-centered care,” said Schultz.
All Sleepy Eye Medical Center patients and their family members are encouraged to attend this free event. Complimentary refreshments and snacks will be served.
